LYNYRD SKYNYRD
The band is of American origin. Founded in 1965- Jacksonville, Florida, they are the pioneers of the phenomenon known as SOUTHERN ROCK, leading just after the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND. Homing 3 lead electro-guitarists, they have taken ABB's cue to rocking harder and shorter jamming. Ronnie Van Zant was the major force, composing and singing before he died in plane accident along with some other members of the band in 1977. Many find his lyrics witty. For me good lyrics with good music plus southern style , boogey you loose! With and without Ronnie LYNYRD SKYNYRD rule.
The band took their name from the 3 founding members' high-school gym teacher named 'Leonard Skinner'. The LYNYRD SKYNYRD pronunciation is as (-leen .ard .skin .nard-). Ed King and Gary Rossington are among the founding members.
The major difference between L.Skynyrd and the ABB is, ABB had long improvisational playing which sometimes extended to 40 minutes without losing any note. L Skynyrd plays as well but their songs are of shorter nature. I find L.Skynyrd making a more popular southern rock. (In fact Southern Rock is never a popular style-you can not persuade everyone to listen to their music because mostly people would prefer listening to Madonna--easily consummable music.)

PRONOUNCED LEH-NERD SKIN-NERD (1973)
Debut album from raunchy boys of the South. Lynyrd rocks the way ABB rocks except their songs are of shorter nature. Jamming is not as essential to Skynyrd as is to ABB. For only Freebird, let alone the others, this album is essential. I Ain't the One is the very first song in the cd and it is cleverly penned and composed. Tuesday's Gone is prone to many covers. It is a slow one. Gimme Three Steps is humorous. Simple Man is another slow number. Things Goin' On has anti-Semitist lyrics.
PLAYLIST: 1. I Ain't the One 2. Tuesday's Gone 3. Gimme Three Steps 4. Simple Man 5. Things Goin' On 6. Mississippi Kid 7. Poison Whiskey 8. Free Bird
SECOND HELPING(1974)
SECOND HELPING(1974)
The album opens with the legendary 'Sweet Home Alabama' [sweet home alabama , where the skies are so blue]- a genius piece by Ronnie Van Zant. The following song 'I need You' takes the rhythm down, i do not like its position in the playlist. Don't Ask Me No Questions and Workin For Mca rock. Mca is the new label of the band. The Ballad Of Curtis Loew is about a white haired black man who has recently died. Swamp Music is a rocker. The Needle And The Spoon tells about the damages of the drug addiction. Call Me The Breeze is a J.J.Cale cover. This last song is my favorite.
PLAYLIST: 1. Sweet Home Alabama 2. I Need You 3. Don't Ask Me No Questions 4. Workin For Mca 5. The Ballad Of Curtis Loew 6. Swamp Music 7. The Needle And The Spoon 8. Call Me The Breeze
NUTHIN FANCY(1975)(1974)
Saturday Night Special is a cheap hand gun that you can enter a bar with. Cheap bars are called honky tonks. Cheating women make you mad. Railroads are good places to write a song on. I'm A Country Boy, so what? If you are on the hunt, that means you are seeking foxes. Am I Losin', if you are a loser that is right. Whiskey Rock-A Roller, rock n roll and booze.
PLAYLIST: 1. Saturday Night Special 2. Cheatin' Woman 3. Railroad Song 4. I'm A Country Boy 5. On The Hunt 6. Am I Losin' 7. Made In The Shade 8. Whiskey Rock-A Roller
GIMME BACK MY BULLETS(1976) (1974)
Nuthin Fancy is an indicator that the band has taken wrong directions. In their Nuthin Fancy album what they did was hard rock. With Gimme Back My Bullets, they are on the right Southern Rock Trend. The Southern rock came to a choking point by the mid 70s, for, virtually, every sub-style was attempted and every fine tune created. Every Mother' Son bears resemblance to Simple Man on the debut. I love this song. Double Trouble, is a fine song as well, but more lively and vibrant. Searching is to be employed by the band in their many lyve efforts in the remaining days of the career of second non-trivial bands among the Southern rock bands. Check out the other songs to see why I have the opinion that the Southern rock genre had come to a halt. If you are a die-hard fan, yes, you get an essentially good album. But I suggest you go for the earlier efforts by these raunchy boys from Florida.
PLAYLIST: 1. Gimme Back My Bullets 2. Every Mother' Son 3. Trust 4. I Got The Same Old Blues 5. Double Trouble 6. Roll Gypsy Roll 7. Searching 8. Cry For The Bad Man 9. All I Can Do Is Write About It

STREET SURVIVORS(1977)
Just after this album is prepared Ronnie Van Zant dies in a plane crash with 3 other band members. What's Your Name? is the first mediocre track. That Smell is one of the best songs of this last masterpiece album of the Skynyrd. After the accident clashing with the issuing of this album the band was torn apart. I Know a Little is a fast one, listen to it. There is a Merle Haggard cover Honky Tonk Night Time Man [Bakersfield Country].
